Bag Balm is a thick, oil based ointment built around petrolatum, lanolin, paraffin wax, and a small amount of 8-hydroxyquinoline sulfate as a mild preservative. The formula is packaged in a large 4.5 lb pail sized for barns, stables, kennels, or multi-animal households that go through balm quickly. It is applied topically to soothe and moisturize dry, chapped, cracked, or wind-burned skin, including paw pads, teats, and other areas exposed to weather or friction. On dairy animals, the udder and teats are typically washed and dried before and after milking, then a generous layer of the ointment is massaged in. For pets, a smaller amount is worked into the affected area, and excessive licking should be discouraged so the ointment can remain on the skin. The product contains no added alcohol, fragrance, or parabens. No mixing or assembly is required, as the ointment is ready to use directly from the pail.
