Betadine Surgical Scrub is a liquid, sudsing antiseptic cleanser built around a povidone-iodine base for use in veterinary settings. It is formulated for preoperative and postoperative scrubbing, including surgical hand scrubs and preparation of an animal's skin ahead of a procedure. The formula develops a lather when combined with water and is designed to be worked into the skin or hands for several minutes before being rinsed off completely with water or sterile gauze. Because the cleanser contains detergents, thorough rinsing is required after each application. It is packaged as a ready-to-use liquid in a plastic bottle and is labeled for external use only on companion animals. The product is not intended for use on food-producing animals or in the eyes, and prolonged contact with the wet solution may cause skin irritation in some cases.
