Proudsoff is a topical ointment built around cupric sulfate in a specialized base, designed to help control and remove proud flesh, the excess granulation tissue that can form as a wound heals from the outside in. It is intended for use on horses, cattle, sheep and goats and comes packaged in a jar for barn or farm storage at room temperature. Before each application, dead tissue and debris are removed from the affected area with cotton or soft gauze, and the lesion itself is not washed. A thin coat of the ointment is spread over the entire area affected by proud flesh once daily, and use is discontinued once the proud flesh has been removed. The ointment is meant only for wounds that already show proud flesh and is not intended for animals raised for food. No bandage or wrap is required after application.
