This spray blends geraniol, clove oil and peppermint oil in a water-based solution intended to discourage flies, mosquitoes, gnats, ticks, lice and fleas from landing on horses. Because the natural oils are suspended in more than 90 percent water, the formula goes on without leaving an oily or greasy film on the coat. It is meant for topical use, applied as a light spray mist over the body and brushed in, or worked onto sensitive areas around the face with a soft cloth. The same bottle is also labeled for use on dogs, cats, ferrets, caged pets and other small companion animals, each with its own application directions. Reapplication is recommended as insect activity returns through the day rather than as a single all-day treatment. Contact with the eyes and mucous membranes should be avoided, and a veterinarian should be consulted before use on medicated, debilitated, aged, pregnant or nursing animals.
