This aquarium sand is made from silica and colored black with fluorescent accents woven throughout. It functions as a substrate or decorative accent layer for freshwater aquariums, giving the tank floor a finished look while providing a stable base for GloFish plants and ornaments. Under standard white aquarium lighting the sand reads as a matte black substrate, while under blue LED lighting the fluorescent highlights become visible for a glowing nighttime effect. The bag should be rinsed before use to remove loose dust, and the sand is added to the tank prior to filling with water. Care should be taken when cleaning the sand bed with a gravel vacuum, keeping siphon flow low so the fine grains are not drawn out along with debris.
