This substrate is made from organic fir bark that has been heat treated and oven dried to help eliminate pests naturally found in raw bark. The loose, light texture absorbs and releases moisture, helping the enclosure hold humidity while allowing heat to move through the substrate layer. It suits tropical and forest-style terrariums housing chameleons, frogs, snakes, skinks, and rainforest geckos, giving animals a surface for natural digging and burrowing behavior. A bedding depth of one to two inches in the enclosure is recommended for typical setups. No assembly is required; the bark is simply spread across the terrarium floor at setup and replaced periodically as it breaks down or becomes soiled. The material is compostable and biodegradable once it reaches the end of its useful life in the habitat.
