Dr. Naylor Blu-Kote Spray is a liquid topical preparation built around sodium propionate, gentian violet and acriflavine carried in a base of water, urea, glycerine and isopropyl alcohol. It is labeled for external application to surface wounds, cuts, galls, hoof and pad sores, chafes, abrasions and moist skin lesions on horses and dogs. Before spraying, the affected area is cleaned and dried, and any scale or scab is removed so the formula can reach the skin surface directly. The bottle is shaken, held upright, and the nozzle is aimed at the lesion from several inches away for an even, light coat. Each case ships as twelve individual 4-fluid-ounce spray bottles, making it suited to stocking multiple stalls, kennels or first-aid stations. The liquid carries a distinctive blue-violet tint that stains skin, hair, clothing and other surfaces on contact, whether wet or dry.
