The waterer pairs a wide-mouth plastic bottle with a bowl-shaped base, using gravity to keep the bowl filled as a dog drinks throughout the day. The base carries Microban antimicrobial protection, which is built into the plastic to help limit the growth of stain- and odor-causing bacteria between cleanings. A charcoal filter sits inside the bottle's lid and is designed to reduce waterborne impurities as water moves from the bottle into the bowl. The bottle is made of PET plastic while the base is molded from BPA-free polypropylene, chosen for durability and ease of cleaning. To refill, the bottle twists free of the base, gets filled and capped, then is inverted and locked back into place. The base is dishwasher safe on the top rack, while the bottle is intended to be hand washed with a bottle brush and mild soap. Each unit ships with one charcoal filter already installed, and replacement filters are sold separately for ongoing use.
