Each cartridge pairs a dual-sided mesh bag with a pocket of activated carbon, mounted on a frame that slides directly into a compatible Whisper filter housing. The mesh traps floating debris and fish waste while the carbon works to absorb odors and discoloration as tank water passes through. Cartridges arrive fully assembled and ready to use, so there is no loose carbon to measure or separate frame to attach. Packaging is color-coded by size, helping aquarium keepers match a replacement cartridge to the correct filter model. Before first use, a cartridge should be rinsed under cool tap water to clear residual carbon dust, then set in place by lifting the filter lid and sliding it into the housing. Cartridges are intended as a periodic consumable, swapped out on a monthly basis or sooner if water flow through the filter begins to slow.
