Chlorhexidine has a strong bactericidal and bacteriostatic activity on the Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. Climbazole is an imidazole compound active on most fungi and yeasts (Malassezia pachydermatis). Phytosphingosine is a pro-ceramide that helps restore the skin barrier, and also has anti-inflammatory properties. Both the antibacterial and antifungal activities of the lipo-amino-acid complement those of chlorhexidine. The Lipacid also acts as a moisturizing and restructuring agent by allowing a lipo-protidic film to deposit on the skin. This long-lasting film resists rinsing, and thus protects the skin from irritations and loss of moisture.

External use only. Wet the animal with warm water and apply DOUXO® Calm Shampoo extensively on the fur to create a rich lather. Massage the shampoo into the wet hair coat, lather freely. Allow to remain on the hair coat for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing thoroughly with clean water. Repeat if needed. The veterinarian’s recommendations should be observed. It is generally recommended to shampoo 2 to 3 times weekly, for 1 to 2 weeks. Does a great job along with the meds. I also have the Douxo pads to go along with the shampoo.
I was fostering a Shar Pei / Rottweiler mix with seriously bad skin issues. I tried a number of things with no luck at all. My vet suggested that I try this shampoo weekly (along with the accompanying mousse every other day on the worst spots) and the difference is amazing. She had itchy, inflamed skin all along her rump, tail, knees and ankles and most of the hair in those areas was gone. Her skin was grey and cracked. It looked like mange, but it wasn't. After the first bath, she was clearly more comfortable and her skin started to look supple and healthy again and the itching started to subside. After about 6 weeks most of her hair had come back in, the inflammation was gone and her hair was glossy and soft. The transformation was amazing. I have recommended that her forever family continue with this shampoo.
My bulldog has sensitive skin and always will lick her paws. I bought this shampoo in hopes to help ease the itchy skin and to prevent the constant licking. This shampoo seems to help and does not irritate my bulldogs skin to all (which can be troublesome due to allergies). I only wish the bottle was bigger, especially for the price the shampoo is.
