Dr. Larson's Dehorning Paste

by MAI
  • Active ingredients: potassium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide paste
  • Precision tip: cartridge design penetrates the horn bud directly
  • Multi-animal supply: one tube treats roughly two dozen calves
  • Species use: labeled for beef and dairy cattle as well as goats
  • Handling note: corrosive formula requires gloves during application

This topical paste is built around a combination of potassium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide, delivered through a pre-filled syringe fitted with a narrow cartridge tip designed to penetrate the horn bud. It is intended for use on very young calves and goat kids, applied directly to the horn button as an alternative to hot-iron or mechanical dehorning tools. Handlers should clip the hair around the bud before application and keep the treated animal dry and away from rain for several hours afterward for best results. Because the paste is corrosive, protective gloves are required during use, and contact with skin, eyes or ingestion should be avoided. The product ships ready to use with no assembly or mixing required. Each unit is packaged as a metered tube so the same amount can be dispensed with every application.
