Poppermints are bite-sized treats made from a concentrated, fortified grain base and flavored with peppermint to appeal to horses, ponies and mules of every size, from miniature to draft. The formula is supplemented with added vitamins, minerals and amino acids intended to round out a regular feeding program rather than replace it. Each jar holds a supply of individual pieces that can be broken into smaller portions for miniature horses or very young animals. The treats are produced in the United States and packaged in a jar designed for repeated at-home use. Owners typically offer Poppermints as a reward during training sessions, stretching exercises or everyday handling. Feeding guidance calls for limiting the amount given relative to the horse's body weight and continuing to provide a balanced ration of hay, pasture and fresh water alongside the treats.
