The trap consists of a single-use plastic jug fitted with an attractant that combines feeding stimulants, putrescent egg solids, and a fly sex pheromone to draw filth flies such as house flies, blow flies, and bottle flies. Setup involves pouring the attractant into the container, adding water to the fill line, and lightly agitating the mixture before turning the trap upright. Once assembled, the trap can be hung from its tab or set on the ground in an outdoor location with high fly activity, choosing a shaded spot in hot weather and a sunny spot in cooler weather. Flies enter through the opening, become trapped, and drown in the water inside. Because the trap relies on drowning rather than an insecticide, it avoids chemical exposure in the area where it is placed, though it should still be kept away from livestock and out of reach of children. The container is built for a single use and gets disposed of in household trash once it fills with flies. It is intended for outdoor placement only and is not designed for use against biting flies.
