This ointment combines benzocaine and salicylic acid in a beeswax and petrolatum base, along with menthol, tea tree oil, thyme oil, clove oil and emu oil. The formula is intended for direct application to minor cuts, scrapes, bites, abrasions and general skin irritation on dogs. Once applied, the base forms a barrier that helps keep germs, water and flying insects away from the treated spot while the benzocaine works to numb surface discomfort. The product can be reapplied up to three times a day as needed, and the treated area may be left open or lightly wrapped afterward. Each container holds a 2 ounce supply dispensed from a squeeze tube, so no additional tools or assembly are needed. Rinsing the wound with water or saline beforehand is suggested for best results, though only removing visible dirt and debris is actually required.
