When does your horse need electrolytes?
Two-thirds of a horse’s body weight is water, making electrolyte balance an important every day event for your horse. A horse can lose fluid through sweating, defecation, urination, and respiration. Dehydration increases during stress, hot weather, heavy workout, sweating, diet changes and disease. If electrolyte balance is not replenished, blood volume decreases and potential negative health effects such as sluggish behavior, colic, failure to perform, and shock.
Are all electrolytes the same?
Simply stated, ‘no’. Certain electrolytes utilize a high level of salt which can do more harm than good. The five major electrolytes which must be replenished include: Potassium, Chloride, Magnesium, Sodium, and Calcium. To ensure that the supplemented electrolytes and nutrients are absorbed, Equine BlueLite uses Betaine, an osmolyte to help with water and electrolyte uptake by the cells. To help effectively use and restore lost electrolytes Equine BlueLite includes a proprietary formula of energy metabolites and electrolytes.
Directions & Dosage
Water Use - Add 1-2 ounces of Equine BlueLite Powder to each 2 gallons of drinking water consumed by a horse daily. Horses will usually consume drinking water equivalent to 7-9% of their body weight. The demands of profuse sweating from hot weather, lactation, and extensive exercise may increase their water demands by 20-50%.
Feed Use - Foal and yearlings: Daily top dress 1-2 ounces of Equine BlueLite Powder on the grain ration.
Feed Use - Working/pleasure horses/ponies: Top dress Equine BlueLite Powder on the grain ration according to the degree of dehydration based on the following pony/horse weight:
300-600 lbs - Routine or Mild Activity (1-2 oz daily), Extensive Activity (2-3 oz daily)
600-900 lbs - Routine or Mild Activity (3-4 oz daily), Extensive Activity (4-6 oz daily)
900-1200 lbs - Routine or Mild Activity (5-6 oz daily), Extensive Activity (6-10 oz daily)
1200 + lbs - Routine or Mild Activity (7-8 oz daily), Extensive Activity (8-10 oz daily)
